LPW 33: Cool Beans Preview

by Pluggo January 30, 2025
written by Pluggo

We are so back! Coming off the heels of a massively successful Oil Rumble at Rogers Place, LPW 33 Cool Beans is here and I’m giddier than when Rod sees Denise; you bet your sweet mustache this card looks pretty! My name is Pluggo and I like to party, and by party, I mean break down super sweet wrestling cards.

LPW Scramble Championship Match: Eli Surge vs. Nate Nixon vs. William Taylor vs. Wolfboy Will Mantla vs. Berat Gorani vs. Elliot Tyler

Eli Surge was nothing short of impressive in his first title defense of 2025 at the Oil Rumble. Just as fast as Rod had to raise $50,000 to save Frank, Surge must prepare for a whole new group of eager challengers to his tinfoil throne. We see Nasty Nate Nixon who is becoming one of the favorites in LPW. He’s as good as advertised, fam. Wolfboy and Goose take another crack at Scramble gold. Plus William Taylor and Elliot Tyler are back and looking to make a statement. Then there’s Berat Gorani, who became your new #1 contender for the LPW Tag Team Championships with Sheik Shabaz. One has to wonder if Berat is going to walk into that title opportunity already draped in gold?

Eli, I hope you have Summoned all the animal spirits on this one because the Scramble Championship difficulty is at an all-time high.

TY Jackson vs. Dean Richtor

TY Jackson is your brand new #1 contender for the LPW Grand Championship. What a way to kick that campaign off with Dean Rictor, an absolute brick house. Remember the scene in Hot Rod where the ramp breaks and Rod flies right into that trailer? Well, I imagine Dean Rictor hits about that hard.

If anyone can hang in there and take the punishment, it’s TY Jackson. Month in and month out, he continues to prove why he belongs at or near the top of the card. Putting aside the RADz’ “issues,” if you even want to call them that, TY remains cool under pressure and is looking to earn that Grand Championship that has eluded him to this point. Dean Rictor, you may hit harder than most but TY has the soul of a bottlenose dolphin.

Marz the Specialist vs. Casey Ferreira

Every time Casey is in LPW, he shows out, and this will be no different. You’d have to believe a win here in this non-title opportunity, or even a showing that pushes Marz to the limit, could result in a future rematch for the Grand Championship.

Last year I declared it was the year of The Thickness, Marz’s fellow short king. Well, this year I am declaring the year of the Specialist. He’s hot off winning the first-ever Oil Cup, defeating MRB, so he’s off to an impressive start and Friday night Marz will look to go 2-0 in 2025. Does that fellow short king I mentioned make his intentions known in regard to that Championship of Salvation which can be cashed in whenever he’d like? Tune in to IWTV at 7 pm Mountain time to find out!

The RADz vs. Los Suavecitos

The RADz are coming off a loss in a #1 Contenders match against Para Lira, and they will look to rebound against the debuting Los Sauvecitos. I’m not sure what’s going on with the RADz and I don’t want to look too much into a loss to Para Lira, who are a top-tier tag team, but this feels as must-win as any non-championship match they have ever had. The cracks keep showing and they have managed to hold it together to this point, but at some point does all the losing just implode the once proud faction who couldn’t be defeated? Friday night will go a long long way into determining which way the RADz’ 2025 will go.

LPW Challenge Championship Match: Michael Richard Blais vs. Big Ben Ortmanns

Michael Ricard Blais takes on the debuting Big Ben Ortmanns for the LPW Challenge Championship.

Ortmanns is a mainstay for IWS in Montreal so we have ourselves a little East vs West matchup. To add a little more stakes to it, Ben is retiring at some point in 2025 but in no way plans to leave Edmonton without gold. As Ortmanns said in an interview on Between Two Beards, he’s not looking for this to be a one-off, and the easiest way to ensure that is to just win and become the new Challenge Champion.

Michael Richard Blais couldn’t care less if this is your retirement tour and you want to go out on top. The leader of the Clandestine Wrestling Society has had a choke hold on the challenge championship and his willingness to go to any lengths to keep it might prove too much for Big Ben.

LPW Tag Team Championship Match (Hardcore Tornado Tag): Ride or Die vs. Intangible Violence

It’s always admirable to want to do things yourself and conquer the mountain solo. That said, when the mountain is the most dangerous group LPW has ever seen, you might want to call for some backup. Reid Matthews is doing just that. After months of issues with the Clandestine Wrestling Society, Matthews will tag-team with Zoë Sager in his latest attempt to take down the group that tried to end his career, and score the LPW Tag Team Championships in the process. Zoe scored the leg up on Ride or Die with a win over Taryn From Accounting at the Oil Rumble last week. Can Reid and Zoe ride that momentum into defeating Ride Or Dide?

Say what you will about TFA and Steven Crowe, but you can’t argue the results. They have mowed down every challenge that has been put in front of them, en route to becoming your longest-reigning tag champions in LPW history. Some have even gone as far as to say they are the Douglas Bubbletrousers of Tag Team wrestling.

There we go folks! LPW is off to a hot start and it’s only getting hotter in the coming months, so strap in and keep it right here for more previews and breakdowns of everything Love Pro Wrestling!

“Without her, there would be no scene.” ⎸ Charli Evans on Madison Eagles

by Spencer Love January 29, 2025
written by Spencer Love

Interview an Australian professional wrestler, and it’s (rightfully) inevitable that Madison Eagles’ name pops up. That was certainly the case when we spoke to Charli Evans a few weeks ago, who spoke glowingly about the Aussie icon’s impact on professional wrestling in the country.

“She is – like, when I say the G.O.A.T, I mean, the G.O.A.T,” Evans beamed. “Without her, there would be no scene.”

“She was the first one to go and stay in America for an extended period of time, and opened the door to SHIMMER for all of us. She is the best wrestler that I’ve ever been in the ring with, and ever watched. At training, we get to learn from her, and just the way she explains things, and does things, I’m just like ‘we are so fucking lucky that she wants to be a part of [this]’.”

“She has never got the flowers that she deserved,” the Medusa Complex star stated. “If she started 5, 10 years later, she’d be main-eventing WrestleMania. She was just at this time where she had to deal with so much shit, and she pushed through all of that.”

“The culture that she’s cultivated at PWA, especially with equality and training exactly the same as everyone else, I think it’s fucking incredible. I can’t say enough good things about her.”

LPW x EOK: The Oil Rumble Preview

by Pluggo January 24, 2025
written by Pluggo

Friday Night January 24th Love Pro Wrestling returns to Roger’s Place for the Oil Rumble II to kick off the new year. Coming off the resounding success of last year’s Oil Rumble LPW looks to kick off 2025 in a big way with two sets of #1 Contenders Matchups, a storied rivalry, Championship Matches, and the debut of the Oil Cup! Let’s just right into the action and break it all down.

LPW Scramble Championship Match: Eli Surge vs. Wolfboy Will Mantla vs. Dean Richtor vs. The Canadian Goose vs. William Taylor vs. Nate Nixon

Eli Surge defends his LPW Scramble Championship against Wolfboy Will Mantla, Canadian Goose Kyle Shaw, Nasty Nate Nixon, Dirty Dean Rictor, and William Taylor.

Leave it to LPW to always stack these Scrambles with fan favorites, hard hitters, and hungry talent looking to make their mark in LPW. This match is no different Eli Surge definitely has his work cut out for him in front of 7000+ fans, hopefully, he brings enough tin foil hats to go around.

#1 Contenders Match: Para Lira vs. The RADz

Two of LPWs most storied tag teams will battle it out for the right to challenge the LPW Tag Team Champions, whoever that may be between Ride Or Die or Intangible Violence after Cool Beans next week.

Both teams are looking to return to the top of the mountain in 2025. Both teams couldn’t be at more different points in their careers. Para Lira continues to fly under the Radar as a well-oiled machine. At times when it felt maybe the ship was going down, they somehow got stronger and stronger.

The RADz on the other hand feel like the pressure of losing and not getting back to the glory days of the group is getting to them. So much so that the once “all for one and one for all” mentality is out the door. Rich King has stepped up and told Larry Woods to follow him and he will be the force that brings the RADz back to the top. Still not sure how TY Jackson feels about Rich’s newfound leadership. Maybe Jackson can be convinced to let Rich lead with a RADz win here.

There is a lot at stake here for both teams and this match will tell an important story on how each team’s year just might go.

#1 Contenders Three-Way Match: “The Thickness” Reid Matthews vs. TY Jackson vs. Steven Crowe

A match of this caliber can really set you off in the right direction. Three of LPWs top stars battling for bragging rights and their own reasons for needing this win. Reid Matthews is your Champion of Salvation and can cash that title at any time is looking to continue his winning ways. He has a Tag Team Championship match the following week against Steven Crowe so you know both of them would love to swing the momentum in their team’s favor. Plus Crowe is also a former Champion of Salvation so that adds just a little extra to it.

For TY Jackson a win here could set himself and his RADz brothers off in the right direction after a friction-filled 2024. You know what they say: “Winning cures a lot”

Zoë Sager vs. Taryn From Accounting

A rivalry that has helped shape LPW early on. It’s a match that both competitors bring a little extra to and in front of a wild Roger’s Place Crowd expect no less. Sager who has recently joined the WWE ID program and TFA is one of the LPWs most popular and decorated stars this has all the makings for a classic.

Not to mention next week Sager and Reid Matthews have an LPW Tag Team Championship Matchup against Ride or Die. So you know both competitors will be looking to ride that momentum into LPW 33 Cool Beans.

KINGS CUP Match: Marz the Specialist vs. Michael Richard Blais

Champion vs Champion matches are all about bragging rights for said champion. When you hold gold you walk around like your championship is the most important title in the company. In Love Pro Westling that’s no different and even more so if you polled the fan base the Challenge Championship held currently by MRB is the most prestigious prize in Love Pro. It has quite the lineage and even debuted before the Grand Championship.

That is in no way a shot at Marz The Specialist and the Grand Championship it’s the top prize in LPW and what everyone is gunning for. Marz has made this championship his own and looks to continue his winning ways in 2025. Could MRB begin his campaign to become a double champion, or does Marz make a statement that 2025 is the year of the Specialist?

There you go it’s going to be a special night in Edmonton. LPW is off and running in 2025 and this looks to be the biggest year yet. We will see everyone next week for LPW Cool Beans!

Tickets for THE OIL RUMBLE can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
