What a wild and fun week in professional wrestling. Before we dive into the madness that was, if you’re here to tell me, ‘Hey, Pluggo, all the ratings were down across the board for both companies,’ guess what? I do not care. I had myself a blast this week, from the wild crowd in Paris coupled with that ending to the fun that The 2300 Arena has brought to AEW Dynamite, and to top it off, we had ourselves a wonderful and long-overdue return to the WWE that was just magical. If you are familiar with my work, then you know it’s time for me to give you my Top 5 moments of the past week!

No Bron’s No Problem!
At Clash In Paris, Bronson Reed & Bron Breakker were kicked out for essentially attempting to murder Roman Reigns in the opening segment of the night. This left the leader of the Vision without backup if things went sideways in the Fatal Four-Way Main Event against CM Punk, LA Knight (YEAH) and Jey Uso.
Right as CM Punk is about to hit his 2nd GTS on Rollins, a masked figure appears and hits a low blow to help Rollins get the 1-2-3. The Visionary always has a plan and who better to help keep his World Heavyweight Championship than The Man Becky Lynch, aka your Women’s Intercontinental Champion, aka an all-time great and aka Seth Rollins’ Wife!
This is a perfect marriage, pun 100% intended. I can’t wait to see more!
Slap Happy Becky Lynch
On Monday Night Raw, CM Punk was obviously pissed off after the actions of Seth Rollins. He was mad at Becky Lynch, but more frustrated with Rollins needing to use his wife to fight his battles. Becky Lynch came out and took exception to all the shots Punk took at her “hot husband,” also letting Punk know it was his name people would chant during her matches too while he was away. So this wasn’t just for Seth, but her too. Then The Man proceeds to paintbrush slap The Best in The World CM Punk.
Punk lets Lynch know he’s going to make Seth regret cashing in on him and Becky will regret putting her hands on him.
If you are reading this, you already know where this is going, but in the moment I’m hooked. I think I know what is coming, but still just excited to see where this goes.
WINDSORRRRR……so close once again!
The 2300 Arena had themselves the pleasure of being home to a fantastic TBS Championship Match Wednesday night. I’ve enjoyed the chemistry Alex Windsor and Mercedes Moné have had together during Windsor’s short time in AEW. I would have loved to see Alex get the win over The CEO at Forbidden Door in that four-way match, so needless to say I was rooting for it here. Not because I think Moné isn’t worthy to keep it, but she does have 9 belts and she is ready to join the AEW Women’s World Title Main Event scene and be one of the anchors of that. Plus, I’d love to see AEW really establish the TBS Title Division and make it the Workhorse division and showcase it, especially since Mercedes has run through pretty much the entire roster at this point.
Oh…I almost forgot Riho returned and we are getting Moné vs Riho at All Out. Let’s go!
Sami Zayn Returns The Favor
Ten years ago, Sami Zayn answered a John Cena Open Challenge to help establish Sami Zayn on the Main Roster. Fast forward to Friday night and Sami had the opportunity to do the same for John Cena as Cena made his final SmackDown appearance in Chicago. Sami Zayn came out and got booed. Come on, Chicago, how you gonna boo Sami before letting him speak?
Well he wasn’t out there to spoil the fun, like a certain someone did (more on that in a second). Zayn sings Cena’s praises then asks if he could, in honor of John hold the “Sami Zayn United States Open Challenge,” which Cena is all for, as he always wants to see up-and-coming talent get a shot. That’s how he got his start. John goes to leave and Sami says, “Not so fast!” The first challenger should be Cena one last time in Chicago. Cena accepts and then puts on a BANGER…until that darn Brock Lesnar comes out and busts everything up and the match is thrown out!
John Cena has had two of his best matches in quite some time in his last two. Say whatever you want about this tour, but this is what it should have been about the entire time – just bangers and awesome moments like with Sami here.
LIGHT IT UPPPPPPP!
AJ Lee rumors have been running wild for the past couple weeks and went to nuclear levels after Becky Lynch slapped the piss out of her husband on RAW. AJ Lee has become the CM Punk of return rumors any time there’s a chance of a mystery spot or a surprise return.
This did not disappoint, and the Allstate Arena blew the roof off the place when her theme music hit! I literally jumped off the couch. For those who don’t know, AJ Lee was a no-doubt pioneer who was the spark that ignited change in the Women’s Division that we have today. Without her consistently standing out in any spot or segment she was given, we might not be as far along as we are now.
Not only did she return, she mixed it up, laying haymaker after haymaker on our Women’s Intercontinental Champion and then standing tall and embracing CM Punk to close out the night. You could tell this meant the world to both AJ Lee and CM Punk. I couldn’t be more excited she is back. We will see what this means for her going forward, but all signs are pointing to Seth & Becky vs Punk & AJ Lee at WrestlePalooza in Indianapolis, Indiana Sept. 20 as the WWE makes its PLE debut on ESPN!
