Get To Know: Marz The Specialist

by Pluggo October 24, 2023
written by Pluggo

What’s a more killer way to return to the Get To Know Spotlight interviews than to chat with none other than Reid Matthews? …..Wait. I already talked with Reid, so is this a part two? It couldn’t be. *Scratches my head in confusion* Oh yes, that’s right! I had to triple-check it, but I’m almost certain today’s guest is none other than Marz The Specialist out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

All jokes aside, Marz is one of my favorite independent wrestlers in the world. I first came across Marz while he was wrestling for Love Pro Wrestling and was immediately drawn to his style. I couldn’t do this series without having him on. We chatted about his influences in wrestling, being a member of Se7en, his upcoming match at LPW 20 against the RADz and so much more. Without further ado, let’s Get To Know Marz The Specialist.

At what moment did you realize you wanted to be in the wrestling business?

The first moment I saw Edge wrestling in the ring, which I believe was my second time ever watching wrestling. Oddly enough, it was during his weird Kane feud in 2010, but my child brain didn’t know what was happening besides he was good in the ring and cool.

How did you get started in wrestling?

I started training back in 2021 and quickly started doing the independent shows that were running around the end of COVID-19 times. So not a lot of variety at the time, but I was lucky that I started when everyone was in one place, so I could meet and pick everyone’s mind.

Who would you say is your biggest influence in wrestling?

Biggest influence is easily Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan. Looking at how I portray myself in the ring, my moveset, and a lot of my mannerisms, I think it is a pretty easy tell.

It’s hard to just have one favorite wrestler. Who is on your Mount Rushmore of wrestling?

I always say I have two Mount Rushmores, personal favorites and just the general Mount Rushmore. My own is Bryan Danielson, Edge, Eddie Guerrero, and Mick Foley, whilst the all-timers are Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan, John Cena, and The Rock.

Who is currently your favorite wrestler?

Current favorite is still probably Bryan Danielson or Edge. It has been flipping a lot recently.

What one match of yours that you are most proud of?

Nailing down to absolutely one is so hard for me, so I’m going against the question and doing a few! Me and Steven Crowe, literally all of them. My best opponent if you ask me. Our first banger at LPW 4 is still one I bring up to this day, and I absolutely adore our Iron Man Match. Myself and TJ Cannon, specifically our 2 out of 3 falls in Winnipeg and even more our LPW 15 match, which is also to many the dumbest match on my body. Myself and Reid Matthews, our feud of summer 2022 ending with our 3 Stages of Hell is probably my favorite string of matches with a person. Any time me and Shaun Moore are together, specifically at Big Visions Wrestling. Finally, The Short Kings, myself and Reid, vs Jordan Oasis and Malik Melo at WrestleCore. Quite possibly the most adrenaline I’ve ever had in a match.

Who is your dream match?

Bryan Danielson is the easy answer. Travis Williams is definitely up there because it still has somehow never happened. But the impossible dream match is probably Kurt Angle.

You’ve mentioned Danielson a few times as his career seems to be winding down according to him. What is your favorite match of his career?

That’s a tough one for me, but I can narrow it down to two for sure, with two honourable mentions. Honours go to the WrestleMania 30 Main Event Triple Threat and Summerslam 2013 main event vs John Cena. I remember watching WrestleMania 30 at 14 years old with a good friend of mine in a movie theater, so not necessarily a live crowd but still a good chunk of Canadians out here enjoying wrestling. And the theatre erupting in YES’s when he won is something I’ll never forget. The John Cena match has less of a story, it’s just a match I used to study a bunch.

The top two for me are vs Brock Lesnar Survivor Series 2018 and vs Zack Sabre Jr at WrestleDream. Maybe recency bias on the latter, but as a man who goes by “Technical Tactician,” I can’t pass up two of the best technicians going at it. And the Brock match for the longest time was my favorite, I remember watching with my family, all getting mad at another Brock Lesnar squash. How wrong we were! I absolutely love this match.

Who’s that up-and-coming wrestler no one is talking about but should be?

Honestly, Riley Cruz and Jared Rogers are the two off the top of my head. Jared has worked so hard since I first saw him step into a ring at a Clandestine mini-camp. Riley had a match with me at PPW in Saskatoon and for less than 10 matches in, absolutely blew me away. Keep an eye out for them.

What advice do you have for anyone thinking about getting into wrestling?

My advice isn’t anything special really. Open mind, take in as much information as possible, and be open to taking in that information. Being stubborn kills learning opportunities. And just work as hard as possible.

What is you favorite venue to perform in?

Favorite venue is easily the Saddledome for the PWA Battle at the Dome. It meant so much to be able to perform on that stage in front of all those people. I even had some people who I haven’t talked to in years message me about it because they were there and happened to see me. An incredible day.

What’s your pre-match routine or superstitions?

Biggest one I can think of is after I’m done wetting my hair and getting everything ready I start pacing around just getting in the zone to get into the match. Pure mental game for me.

I’m sure the car rides are long so what’s on your playlist?

I have a very large variety of music I listen to. Rock, punk, pop, video game music, and a lot of wrestling themes. Me and TJ Cannon like to joke that Steven Crowe’s “Rhinestone Cowboy” theme kept us alive on many late-night drives.

What food spot are you hitting up while on the road? What are you ordering?

Everyone who knows me knows the answer is Denny’s. Absolutely love all-day breakfast, and anything brunch wins my heart. My go-to’s are either breakfast sandwiches or the Slam Burger.

What do you say to the people who say wrestling is fake?

I don’t get the “wrestling is fake” complaint. I watched fight scenes in movies, games, and cartoons and that’s what I always compare it to to those that aren’t sports-oriented. “You watched Game of Thrones? You know the fight scenes aren’t them actually fighting and that those stories are told by actors, not real soldiers, kings and queens?

” Wrestling is melodrama, it’s tragedy, triumph, it’s love, it’s heartbreak. Wrestling is my favorite form of storytelling in the world.

What is the one thing you would change about the wrestling business?

I guess what I would change is less purely wrestling and more so an entertainment and workers rule. For me, though, I wish there was less risk with travel and work in other countries. Travel is one of my favorite parts of wrestling, and most Canadian wrestlers know how hard it can be to expand beyond the borders.

If you weren’t in the wrestling business what would you be doing?

It’s honestly hard for me to say. I love entertainment so I would probably still do something acting or skit-wise but besides that, I would probably pursue something full-time in the fitness industry.

Who knows, I still might, to supplement my wrestling career. For now, I’ve done some classes, but nothing beyond that.

What are your goals for 2023?

For the rest of 2023, it’s to try and get out as much as I can to other provinces and entertain as much as I can. Into next year I want to slowly start expanding into different countries and see how far I can go. America is the big one but I would also love Japan or Europe!

When it’s time to hang them up, what do you hope people will say about your wrestling career?

Everyone who knows me knows I want to be the best in every aspect of the word. I want to be the best in the ring, the best flyer, the best technician, the best entertainer, best talker. I don’t know how to explain it, but it all stems from the desire to be remembered. When I’m long gone and passed I want future generations to talk about me for years to come. The idea of being just a little blurb in the course of history doesn’t sit right. I want people to mention my name for generations to come.

Where can the fans see you perform next?

Every month at Love Pro Wrestling and Clandestine Wrestling Society and at the time of writing this, I’m also going to PPW in Saskatoon this weekend!

What has it been like to be a part of Se7en, one of the fastest-rising factions in Canada?

Like I said previously, I love storytelling. And for me, that story we were able to tell upon Se7en becoming a thing, with the initial three months of me still being how I’ve always been, to the turn on Steven Crowe in May after the match with TJ – that is what I love, not just being in a group with two of my best friends, but to expand myself into something I never thought of and tell unique stories that the fans can engage in. That night of the turn, the whirlwind we brought everyone on is something I love.

Speaking of Se7en, you guys have a pretty huge matchup against the RADz coming up at LPW 20. The losers’ manager has to leave LPW. Are you prepared for life after Thaddeus Archer The 3rd or is that simply not an option?

By no means is this to discredit what Thaddeus does for us, but if something were to happen to him, or any one of us really, we’re all more than capable of handling ourselves and going through whatever we need to.

That being said, though, there’s no need to worry about it. Thad isn’t going anywhere, but Ben will have a one-way ticket to a retirement home once LPW 20 is over this month.

What can fans expect when they see you wrestle?

When one comes out to see me, they can expect to see someone who will give his all every time. Like I’ve stated before, I think wrestling is the best form of storytelling, and I want to tell an engrossing story every time I’m out there. I want everyone to feel engaged and want to make sounds, boo or cheer, towards what’s happening in the ring. And to that end, people can expect me to put my body on the line in crazy stunts and moves, a technical showcase, a show of power and high-flying combat, a little bit of everything, really, to put on the best show.

Where can fans go to follow you on social media?

I’m on Instagram, Tiltok, and Twitter (X, ew) @MarzSpecialist and Facebook Marz the Specialist. You can also find me and Reid’s comedy skits and podcasts on YouTube and Spotify – Short Kings on both platforms!

This was a blast and an honor for me, so a huge thank you to Marz The Specialist. Please make sure to follow him on all his socials and chat with him live when he comes to a town near you. Or, as he said, catch him at the end of the month at our home promotion Love Pro Wrestling. As always, keep it locked here for future interviews with the best independent wrestlers from all over the planet.

Longest Title Reigns in LPW History

by Ryan Gagne October 21, 2023
written by Ryan Gagne

LPW held its first show on Oct. 15, 2021, at the Rec Room in South Edmonton Common. Since the promotion will celebrate two years of being a trendsetter in the industry with LPW 20: Planet Slammet, Janet, on Oct. 27, 2023, we thought it time to look back at the longest title reigns.

Despite showcasing some of the best talent in Western Canada every month, only nine wrestlers have earned gold in LPW. Considering the Grand Championship and Scramble Championship are both up for grabs at the LPW 20, the next winner of any title will become the 10th title holder in the promotion’s history.

Whether you are new to LPW, a season ticket holder, or just reminiscing about past wrestling moments, here’s the list of longest title reigns in company history.

Travis Williams – Challenge Championship (23+ Days)

At LPW 19 on Sept. 29, 2023, Travis Williams won his first title in the promotion, defeating Son of Irish for the Challenge Championship. Williams will not be on the LPW 20 card as of this writing, meaning his first title defense could come at the November event.

History was made in more ways than one last night.

In ending @Sonofirish12's reign, @proTWilliams is your new LPW Challenge Champion!

Congratulations, champ!#SpeedballStrikesFIRST pic.twitter.com/E4uo7FDdgf

— Love Wrestling || Love Pro Wrestling (@LoveWrestlingCA) September 30, 2023

Para Lira – Tag Team Championship (150+ Days)

Para Lira, which consists of Berat Gorani and Sheik Shabaz, have been LPW tag champions since defeating The RADz (Larry Woods and Rich King) at LPW 15 on May 26, 2023. After ending The RADz reign, they have defended the titlesagainst Levi Night and Mo Jabari (LPW 15), the team of Michael Allen Richard Clark and Shaun Moore (LPW 18), Ride or Die (LPW 19), as well as LPW x CWS #5 against Eli Surge and Jared Rogers. Currently, Para Lira is less than 60 days from setting a new record as the longest-reigning tag team champions.

Mitch Clarke – Challenge Championship (170 Days)

Mitch Clarke became the second-ever Challenge Champion by dethroning Taryn from Accounting on Aug. 27, 2022, at LPW 7. While holding the gold for 170 days, he had five title defenses, including a triple threat match in his first match as champion, defeating Chris Perish and Son of Irish. Furthermore, his other victories came against TY Jackson, Shaun Moore, Williams, and Son of Irish. Unfortunately, on Feb. 13, 2023, Clarke had to vacate the Challenge Championship, prematurely ending his reign.

Jack Pride – Scramble Championship (177+ Days)

Jack Pride remains the first and only Scramble champion in LPW history, with a reign surpassing 177 days at the time of his writing. After winning the belt in a match against Gorani, Surge, Liiza Hall, Michael Richard Blais, and Steven Crowe on Apr. 28, 2023, he’s been an active champion with four title defenses.

Since claiming the belt six months ago, the list of competitors who have tried and failed to dethrone Pride include Rogers, Jabari, Reid Matthews, Taryn From Accounting, Woods, Marz the Specialist, Blais, King, Crowe, TJ Cannon, Jackson, Dean Richtor, Riley Cruz, and Will Mantla.

The RADz – Tag Team Championship (209 Days)

Woods and King became the promotion’s first-ever tag team champions by winning a tournament final four-way match on Oct. 28, 2022, at LPW 9. Ultimately, The RADz outlasted The Bollywood Boyz (Gurv Sihra/Harv Sihra), The Clandestine Society (Crowe/Taryn), and Para Lira (Gorani/Shabaz).

During their 209-day reign, they had three title defenses, defeating The Bollywood Boyz at LPW X, Para Lira at LPW 11, and Se7en (Marz/Cannon) at LPW 14. Eventually, Para Lira struck gold on their third attempt, drafting The RADZ, ending LPW’s fifth-longest championship reign after seven months.

Son of Irish – Challenge Championship (217 Days)

As mentioned, there was a vacancy for the Challenge Championship in February 2023, which Son of Irish captured at LPW 12 with a win over Blais. Despite being the most recent champion to lose a title, dropping the belt to Williams at LPW 19, Son of Irish was busy with at least one title defense a month.

Ultimately, several of the promotion’s top stars took a shot at the Challenge Championship, including Artemis Spencer, Jabari, Clarke, Reid Matthews, Amir Jordan, Cannon, Gigi Rey, and Marz, before Williams secured a pinfall victory over Son of Irish in September 2023.

Michael Richard Blais – Grand Championship (245 Days)

Blais became the first-ever Grand champion by winning a ladder match over Randy Myers and Williams at LPW 4 on May 27, 2022. As the top title holder in the company, Blais was busy defending his championship over the seven months, defeating Clarke, Bobby Sharp, Pride, Nicole Matthews, and Mark Wheeler.

Until October 2023, Blais had the second-longest title reign in company history at 245 days, eventually losing his spot to the superstar who defeated him at LPW 11, Zoë Sager.

Zoë Sager – Grand Championship (268+ Days)

Sager is LPW’s longest-reigning active champion, capturing the Grand Championship on Jan. 27, 2023, with nine title defenses through September 2023. After defeating Blais, Sager defeated Crowe and Nicole Matthews in back-to-back events before winning a triple threat match at LPW 14 against Michael Allen Richard Clark, and Jackson.

𝟚𝟜𝟞!

The Intangible Era has reached day 246, making @SagerZoe the longest-reigning Grand Champion in Love Pro Wrestling history. Congratulations, Zoë! pic.twitter.com/ATOkCBhQkM

— Love Wrestling || Love Pro Wrestling (@LoveWrestlingCA) September 30, 2023

Since May, she’s picked up additional wins against Sebastian Wolfe and Jackson before escaping a Three Stages of Hell match against Gigi Rey at LPW 17. Lately, Sager’s title defenses include victories over Williams, Surge, and Judas Icarus in his LPW debut in September.

Taryn From Accounting – Challenge Championship – 316 Days

As of October 2023, only one wrestler has held an LPW championship for over 300 days, who also happens to be the promotion’s first champion, Taryn From Accounting. During LPW’s first show on Oct. 15, 2021, Taryn won a Pinnacle Rumble Match, defeating Perish, Gorani, Davey O’Doyle, Kyle Sebastian, Woods, King, Crowe, Sydney Steeler, and The Canadian Goose.

Although she did not have a title match until the following March (2022) at LPW 2, Taryn defended the belt six times after that, picking up wins against Crowe, Perish, Nicole Matthews, Rachael Ellering, and Sager. Interestingly, on Aug. 26, 2002, at LPW 7, she defeated Veda Scott early in the night, only to lose later to Clarke in the promotion’s first title change.

Upcoming LPW Events

Although there has been only one title change since May, there’s no telling what can happen at the next LPW show, especially with the Challenge and Scramble Championships routinely defended. Whether you need to renew your season tickets or are debating about coming out for the first time, don’t miss out on your chance to catch LPW live at Rec Room at South Edmonton Common.

Warrior Wrestling 31 Preview

by Pluggo October 5, 2023
written by Pluggo

Warrior Wrestling 31 is happening this Friday night in my hometown of South Bend, IN and I’m going be there once again. This will be the 4th time Warrior has made its way to South Bend and I’ve had an absolute blast every single time. I fully expect this time around to be no different.

Now, I will help you navigate this loaded card and get you ready for one of my favorite independent wrestling promotions on the planet.

Sabin Gauge vs. Koda Hernandez

Here’s a matchup I don’t know a ton about, but I’m definitely excited to get more familiar with both talents. They have been on past Warrior cards and showed out, so I fully expect nothing less here. This has the making of a breakout performance from these up-and-comers.

Jordan Kross vs. Jack Vaughn

The Punk Rock Prince looks to keep his undefeated Warrior streak alive against Jack Vaughn, a star in OVW. Talk about your classic clash of styles; the up-and-coming Kross is the epitome of DIY heart and soul, and that has caused him to thrive on the independent scene. As for his opponent, Vaughn, his style is very “professional.” He doesn’t care for the next generation of Super Indie talent that he comes across. Vaughn will be doing whatever it takes to stop the momentum Kross has built throughout 2023, but he will not slap the thigh!

Skye Blue vs. Trevor Outlaw

Skye Blue is a fan favorite at Warrior Wrestling and one I believe most would love to see crowned Warrior Women’s Champion one day. (Hint, hint.) Let’s get Blue vs. Athena ASAP! Friday will not be that day, as she’s up against everyone’s favorite punching bag, Trevor Outlaw. There are few things more enjoyable than watching Frank The Clown take a beating, so here’s hoping Skye Blue continues her winning ways in Warrior Wrestling.

Konosuke Takeshita vs. Storm Grayson

This is one of the issues with the Warrior show; there is so much Frank The Clown, as he and his group seem to be involved in every single thing that goes on. A Storm Grayson match is no different, except for the fact that I truly enjoy Grayson in the ring. I think if he can ever get out of the shadow of Frank and Warrior Champion KC Navarro, he could make some set waves.

Well, beating a man like Takeshita, who has beaten Kenny Omega three times, plus Ibushi and Jericho, all over the span of a few months, could do just that. A big win could force the hand of Warrior management and put Grayson in line for a shot at the top prize held by stablemate KC Navarro.

Racheal Armstrong vs. Missa Kate

This matchup has me all sorts of excited, as I think Kate and Armstrong are incredibly talented. Missa Kate has been tearing it up in the NWA, even holding Tag Team Gold at one point with Madi Wrenkoski. Armstrong has been on the rise, having banger after banger on the indies in 2023 after matches with Allie Katch, Xia Brookside, and Miyu Yamashita. She looks to get herself off to a strong start in Warrior Wrestling in her debut.

KC Navarro vs Encore Moore: Warrior Wrestling Championship

There has been tension between the Champ and Frank The Clown for a few shows now, so much so that there will be an FTC Family meeting of sorts to hopefully get on the same page. That said, there is no denying that KC and Frank have come up with a formula that doesn’t seem to miss. No one has been able to beat Truly Blessed to this point. Even after some miscommunications and Matt Cardona throwing everything he had at him in the Stadium Series, Navarro left Chicago as champ.

Enter Encore Moore, who admittedly I’m not too familiar with, but I have heard nothing but positives about him. All I know is if he can overcome the numbers game Navarro and Frank like to play, and maybe a miscue or two in the Family Meeting, we could be looking at a new Warrior champion. That is certainly a tall, tall task.

Mike Santana vs. Bryan Keith

Before we get into this, remember, friends, “Card Subject to Change.” I’m bummed too that Eddie Kingston couldn’t make the show, but oh my GAWD did they deliver a stellar replacement. Santana is back at Warrior, and if you don’t remember the banger he had with Speedball Mike Bailey at WW 19, you need to check that out.

He takes on one of, if not the hottest name in independent wrestling, Bryan Keith. The Bounty Hunter just received incredibly high praise from another AEW star in Bryan Danielson after his match with Hangman Page. Can Keith take down the AEW star in South Bend in his first time at Warrior, in what looks to be your main event? I have to say yes. If you are reading this and you haven’t already jumped headfirst onto the Keith train, you should do so now. The guy is a bona fide star!

Well, friends, that’s Warrior 31, set for this Friday night at the Bendix Arena in South Bend. If you are in attendance, come by and say hi, I’d love to meet you. If you are watching on Fite+, keep an eye out for me. As always, I cannot wait to see what Warrior has in store. They always put on a great show.

LPW 19: SPEEDBALL STRIKES FIRST RESULTS | SEPTEMBER 29, 2023

by Ryan Gagne September 30, 2023
written by Ryan Gagne

On one of LPW’s greatest nights, the crowd filled the South Edmonton Common Rec Room to the rafters in one of the most anticipated cards in the promotion’s history. Besides “Speedball” Mike Bailey headlining the show against “God’s Gift to Wrestling” Michael Richard Blais, LPW 19 featured eight matches with some swerves thrown in, causing a ripple effect up and down the roster.

Whether you watched the action in person or followed the show online, here’s a recap of how everything unfolded in what would be one of the rowdiest nights of all time.

Travis Williams Wins LPW Challenge Championship From Son of Irish

LPW 19 opened with a championship bout, where Travis Williams squared off against Son of Irish for the Challenge Championship. At first, the match was slow-paced, with the two testing each other with various holds, allowing Williams to work on Son of Irish’s shoulder. Eventually, the two combined for the first “holy shit” moment of the night when Son of Irish dove over the top rope, landing on Williams a few rows into the crowd.

History was made in more ways than one last night.

In ending @Sonofirish12's reign, @proTWilliams is your new LPW Challenge Champion!

Congratulations, champ!#SpeedballStrikesFIRST pic.twitter.com/E4uo7FDdgf

— Love Wrestling || Love Pro Wrestling (@LoveWrestlingCA) September 30, 2023

After the two exchanged pin attempts, Williams kept holding Son of Irish down, focusing on his shoulder, trying to weaken his opponent. Then, the action picked up again with several near falls before Williams pulled a reversal on a roll-up, flipping Son of Irish on his back, clutching his tights for the pinfall, and capturing the Challenge Championship.

Se7en and The RADz Battle to No Contest, Set up Special Stipulation Match at LPW 20

As always with big events, the Se7en came out in full force, with TJ Cannon and Marz the Specialist, taking on the Lumberjack Larry Woods and Rich King from the RADz. Even though the contest didn’t have a finish, the action in and out of the ring and the aftermath led to one of the more entertaining bouts of the night.

After the opening bell, Marz took most of the beating, including several spots of double teamwork from the RADz. Eventually, the tide turned in favor of the Se7en, but Cannon spent as much time engaging with the rowdy crowd instead of remaining focused on keeping the momentum on his side. Soon, all four competitors were in the ring, and chaos ensued. After a low blow by Marz, the two faction managers got involved in the action, forcing referee Stewart Garvey to call for the bell.

IT’S A DAMN DONNYBROOK!#SpeedballStrikesFirst pic.twitter.com/W8BfNgAJtp

— Grainmaker Wrestling Podcast (@GrainmakerPod) September 30, 2023

Considering how quickly the situation got out of hand, LPW’s fearless leader, Spencer Love, had to come out and calm things down, laying down a challenge for LPW 20 in November. Ultimately, RADz manager Judge Ben Oomen will choose a team member, while Thaddeus Archer the Third will do the same, and the two factions will battle again. However, the loser of the match will never be able to manage in LPW again.

Jared Rogers Scores Surprise Win Over El Asesino

In one of the shortest matches of the night, Jared Rogers scored a surprise win over El Asesino, who made the trip to Edmonton from Mexico. However, Rogers didn’t stand a chance since Asesino attacked him before the opening bell, pouncing on the local kid with no remorse.

As Asesino tossed his opponent around, his cockiness got the best of him when Rogers secured a surprise roll-up pin for the victory, sending the masked man into a rage. Eventually, security had to come out to the ring to break up the beatdown, but at that point, it didn’t matter because the record book would always read Rogers with the win.

Ty Jackson Secures RADz Championship Bid Beating Reid Matthews

In one of the most anticipated matches of the evening, Ty Jackson took care of business, earning a pinfall victory over “The Thickness” Reid Matthews, securing a championship shot for The RADz. Immediately after the bell rang, Jackson hoped on the attack, throwing a series of punches at an unsuspecting Matthews. Shortly after, he rolled outside, but Jackson kept the offense coming with a back flip over the ropes, sending Matthews to the concrete floor amongst the fans.

Surprisingly, once the two returned to the ring, Matthews had all the momentum, with Jackson eventually thrown to the floor outside. Although they reengage in the crowd, Jackson managed to land a kick from the top rope, resulting in both competitors staying down for a six count.

T YYYYYYYYYYYY JACKSON!#SpeedballStrikesFIRST pic.twitter.com/w9mfnNzCw0

— Zak Ralph 👽| @LoveWrestlingCA (@smarkmouth) September 30, 2023

As expected, LPW Grand Champion Zoë Sager came out, and her first order of business was to untie the top turnbuckle to assist Matthews in getting the win. However, with the referee Garvey’s back turn, she tossed the title to Matthews, but Jackson intercepted it, and the whole incident sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Instead of using the belt as a weapon, he threw the title at Matthews and dropped to the mat, holding his face, just in time for Garvey to catch the tail end of the situation. Instead of calling for a disqualification, the match continued with Jackson attempting a roll-up pin that failed, then climbed to the top rope one final time to execute the Swanton Bomb, earning his stable a title shot despite the foiled interference attempts by Sager.

Jack Pride Retains Scramble Championship in Chaotic Fashion

Despite the lineup for the Scramble Championship changing before the start of the bout, “The Man of Two Minds” Jack Pride managed to walk away with his title thanks to a wild finish that ranks amongst the best moments of the night. In the beginning, Pride stood face to face with Dean Richtor, and the two tried to showcase their strength by beating up on Wolfboy Will Mantla and Riley Cruz. Eventually, Richor got tossed out of the ring, leaving Pride alone for several moments to take a double-team beat down.

J: Sorry, not sorry, Daddy Dean. We said We we’re keeping Our title…

P: We would never lie… #TrustUs

After regaining his position as the alpha wrestler in the match, Richtor took everyone out, executing a head butt from the top rope. Although he wasn’t done just yet, tossing Mantla for three suplexes before throwing caution to the wind with a dive on Pride on the outside. Then, seemingly moments away from winning the bout, Richor set himself up for another diving head butt from the other side of the ring, only to catch the double knees of Pride, who slide back into the ring. Despite missing the head butt from Richor, Cruz took the pin from Pride, who stole the moment to retain his title yet again.

Para Lira Remain Tag Team Champions in Stunning Fashion

Although the tag team championship bout didn’t have a clean finish, there was plenty of action between the team of Taryn From Accounting and Steven Crowe (Ride or Die) battling Berat Gorani and Sheik Shabaz (Para Lira). Before the opening bell, Crowe got attacked by Gorani in the crowd, feet away from the commentary table, allowing Shabaz to take out an unsuspecting Taryn inside the ring.

Eventually, referee Garvey got everyone back to ringside, where Para Lira doubled team their opponents for long stretches of the match. Once Crowe returned to his corner, he tagged in the match, getting momentum for Ride or Die. Although Taryn returned to the action, Berat and Shabaz, sporting a golden bowtie for the match, continued dominating the contest.

However, just when Crowe was about to put the match away with a few slaps and kicks when he got Berat down for the pin, Shabaz kicked Garvey, forcing the referee to call for the disqualification, handing the win to Ride or Die. Ultimately, because titles don’t change hands on a disqualification, Para Lira continues to reign as tag team champions despite their attempts to avoid defeat in this match.

Zoë Sager Keeps Finding Unusual Ways to Keep Her Grand Championship

Anyone attending an LPW show usually brings signs that read something about Sager being a cheater. Although she can win a match cleanly, lately, she keeps retaining her Grand Championship with the assistance of a person or object. Unfortunately, it was no different on Friday night at LPW 19.

In one of the night’s best matches, in front of an anti-Zoë crowd, the champion lived to fight another day after spending the first few minutes held down in various holds by challenger Judas Icarus. Besides looking vulnerable at times, Sager took control of the match after Matthews interfered with a hold along the ropes. However, things slowed down again with Icarus keeping Sager tied up in holds and on the mat, far away from her bodyguard lurking outside.

The Intangible Era has reached day 246, making @SagerZoe the longest-reigning Grand Champion in Love Pro Wrestling history. Congratulations, Zoë! pic.twitter.com/ATOkCBhQkM

Hilariously, after another attempt to get involved, Matthews got thrown out, leaving Sager alone to defend her championship. Immediately, Icarus capitalized on his opportunity and tossed the champion around the ring, connecting on a series of chops in each corner before laying her out with a spear. Ultimately, the crowd erupted into “this is awesome” chants as Sager grabbed her title belt and attempted to cheat, even failing to land a low blow.

Instead of taking a hit, Sager grabbed referee Mike “The Fitz” Fitzpatrick in her place, forcing Icarus to back off from the collision. While Fitzpatrick turned away, thanking the wrestling gods for not taking the bump, Sager hit Icarus with the belt, collecting the one-two-three seconds later.

The RADz Shock the Wrestling World

Immediately after the bell, the RADz came through the curtains to celebrate Jackson’s win and to discuss the upcoming title match with Sager. However, when Judge Ben Ooman read the contract for the match, it wasn’t Jackson’s name on the dotted line, but Lumberjack Larry Woods.

Although there was a lot of confusion and frustration, Woods gave a passionate promo about all his errors over the months and how this title opportunity is a way to make up for the past. Even though Jackson lost his chance for gold, he supported Woods’ attempt to fix the situation and gave him his full support.

Michael Richard Blais and “Speedball” Mike Bailey Tear Down the House in the Main Event

One of the most anticipated and talked about matches in LPW history occurred in the main event, with Impact’s “Speedball” Mike Bailey taking on Michael Richard Blais. Ultimately, anyone who watched this match online would never really appreciate how fast-paced the contest was; something only felt being feet away from the ring.

In front of a sold-out crowd, Blais and Bailey tore down the house with countless breathtaking moves. Whether it was the two combatants trading blows, chops, or kicks, ultimately, you’d miss something if you blinked or looked at your phone. Whether the match was inside the ropes or amongst the fans in the rows or stairs, there was one “holy shit” chant and three “this is awesome” chants.

One of the most brutal spots of the match took place with MRB tossing Bailey into the ring apron in what looked like the most painful move of the night. Surprisingly, Bailey was on the verge of being counted out when MRB interrupted the count at nine and begged for the match to continue. Eventually, the pair engaged in a series of chops, including some in the back, which ended when Bailey kicked MRB from behind.

Once again, they engaged in a series of kicks before a double suplex put men on the mat for another lengthy count. Then, in the highlight of the night, Bailey dove off the top rope, sending the crowd into another “this is awesome” chant before MRB took a double knee on the apron. Surprisingly, after both competitors pushed each other to their limits, with MRB going coast to coast once, then surviving a 360 splash, he got Bailey to tap with the Dungeon Lock.
