LPW x EOK: The Oil Rumble Preview

by Pluggo January 24, 2025
written by Pluggo

Friday Night January 24th Love Pro Wrestling returns to Roger’s Place for the Oil Rumble II to kick off the new year. Coming off the resounding success of last year’s Oil Rumble LPW looks to kick off 2025 in a big way with two sets of #1 Contenders Matchups, a storied rivalry, Championship Matches, and the debut of the Oil Cup! Let’s just right into the action and break it all down.

LPW Scramble Championship Match: Eli Surge vs. Wolfboy Will Mantla vs. Dean Richtor vs. The Canadian Goose vs. William Taylor vs. Nate Nixon

Eli Surge defends his LPW Scramble Championship against Wolfboy Will Mantla, Canadian Goose Kyle Shaw, Nasty Nate Nixon, Dirty Dean Rictor, and William Taylor.

Leave it to LPW to always stack these Scrambles with fan favorites, hard hitters, and hungry talent looking to make their mark in LPW. This match is no different Eli Surge definitely has his work cut out for him in front of 7000+ fans, hopefully, he brings enough tin foil hats to go around.

#1 Contenders Match: Para Lira vs. The RADz

Two of LPWs most storied tag teams will battle it out for the right to challenge the LPW Tag Team Champions, whoever that may be between Ride Or Die or Intangible Violence after Cool Beans next week.

Both teams are looking to return to the top of the mountain in 2025. Both teams couldn’t be at more different points in their careers. Para Lira continues to fly under the Radar as a well-oiled machine. At times when it felt maybe the ship was going down, they somehow got stronger and stronger.

The RADz on the other hand feel like the pressure of losing and not getting back to the glory days of the group is getting to them. So much so that the once “all for one and one for all” mentality is out the door. Rich King has stepped up and told Larry Woods to follow him and he will be the force that brings the RADz back to the top. Still not sure how TY Jackson feels about Rich’s newfound leadership. Maybe Jackson can be convinced to let Rich lead with a RADz win here.

There is a lot at stake here for both teams and this match will tell an important story on how each team’s year just might go.

#1 Contenders Three-Way Match: “The Thickness” Reid Matthews vs. TY Jackson vs. Steven Crowe

A match of this caliber can really set you off in the right direction. Three of LPWs top stars battling for bragging rights and their own reasons for needing this win. Reid Matthews is your Champion of Salvation and can cash that title at any time is looking to continue his winning ways. He has a Tag Team Championship match the following week against Steven Crowe so you know both of them would love to swing the momentum in their team’s favor. Plus Crowe is also a former Champion of Salvation so that adds just a little extra to it.

For TY Jackson a win here could set himself and his RADz brothers off in the right direction after a friction-filled 2024. You know what they say: “Winning cures a lot”

Zoë Sager vs. Taryn From Accounting

A rivalry that has helped shape LPW early on. It’s a match that both competitors bring a little extra to and in front of a wild Roger’s Place Crowd expect no less. Sager who has recently joined the WWE ID program and TFA is one of the LPWs most popular and decorated stars this has all the makings for a classic.

Not to mention next week Sager and Reid Matthews have an LPW Tag Team Championship Matchup against Ride or Die. So you know both competitors will be looking to ride that momentum into LPW 33 Cool Beans.

KINGS CUP Match: Marz the Specialist vs. Michael Richard Blais

Champion vs Champion matches are all about bragging rights for said champion. When you hold gold you walk around like your championship is the most important title in the company. In Love Pro Westling that’s no different and even more so if you polled the fan base the Challenge Championship held currently by MRB is the most prestigious prize in Love Pro. It has quite the lineage and even debuted before the Grand Championship.

That is in no way a shot at Marz The Specialist and the Grand Championship it’s the top prize in LPW and what everyone is gunning for. Marz has made this championship his own and looks to continue his winning ways in 2025. Could MRB begin his campaign to become a double champion, or does Marz make a statement that 2025 is the year of the Specialist?

There you go it’s going to be a special night in Edmonton. LPW is off and running in 2025 and this looks to be the biggest year yet. We will see everyone next week for LPW Cool Beans!

Tickets for THE OIL RUMBLE can be purchased through Ticketmaster.

“I’m gonna be a deathmatch wrestler!” ⎸ Tara Zep on Mick Foley

by Spencer Love January 24, 2025
written by Spencer Love

Tara Zep is no stranger to violence.

On December 16, 2023, Zep took part in her first-ever deathmatch, facing off with John Wayne Murdoch at ICW NO HOLDS BARRED. Late in the match, ICW was treated to a surprise appearance by hardcore icon Mick Foley, who assisted Zep in picking up the victory.

Zep discussed the appearance with Love Wrestling, and her relationship with the former Cactus Jack.

“I met him at a GCW – it was a big deathmatch show,” Zep began. “It could have been T.O.S. I think it was Tournament of Survival, [and] I was there being a mark. I had a friend who was working with him, doing some of his P.R. stuff. He was videoing his meet-and-greet. I finally got the chance to meet him in person through my friend. We chatted for a little bit, and I told him – I actually hadn’t even started training at that point, but I told him that I was gonna. I’m like ‘I’m gonna be a deathmatch wrestler!’ I partially meant it, and I partially didn’t know if that would even happen. I was kind of like ‘This is what I’m going to do,’ and he was kind of like ‘Okay, lady!’”

The Hardcore Icon at ICW

Zep described how a call from Foley sparked his appearance for ICW.

“A little time went by, and then my friend, Kacey Hopkins, who was the one who introduced us, they were together somewhere, and they were FaceTiming me. I was like ‘Ahhh! Oh my god, I’m talking to Mick Foley!’”

“Then, Mick was kind of like ‘I want to talk to you about some stuff’ and I was like ‘Oh, okay, cool!’ We started texting, and he was kind of interviewing me in a sense, it felt like. He was like ‘What’s your interest in deathmatch wrestling? Why do you want to do it, I don’t understand.’”

“I think he went into a mode there where he was like ‘I don’t want to really support and endorse this style of wrestling. He didn’t want people to get hurt. Deathmatch had evolved so much where people were doing crazy, crazy, crazy spots and getting badly hurt. I don’t think he wanted to be attached to that too much to that, which makes sense. Looking out for workers.”

Foley was recently announced to appear at the debut event for No Fate Pro Wrestling, as well as host a seminar.

Bringing the Violence to Vancouver! ⎸ Love Wrestling Interviews Tara Zep

by Spencer Love January 21, 2025
written by Spencer Love

Death match wrestling comes to Vancouver this February with the launch of No Fate Pro Wrestling. The promotion debuts on February 23rd at the Pearl Theatre, and we had the chance to chat with one of the founders of No Fate, “The Villain” Tara Zep. Don’t miss out on our wide-ranging conversation, as Zep chats with Spencer Love about No Fate’s impending debut, relationship with Mick Foley, work with John Wayne Murdoch, upcoming debut on the Jericho Cruise, and more!

QUOTES
Earning Mick Foley’s endorsement:

“I met him at a GCW – it was a big deathmatch show. It could have been T.O.S. I think it was Tournament of Survival, [and] I was there being a mark. I had a friend who was working with him, doing some of his P.R stuff. He was videoing his meet-and-greet. I finally got the chance to meet him in person through my friend. Debuting on the Jericho Cruise

“I got a little invite last minute to wrestle on the Chris Jericho AEW Cruise. I don’t honestly know how that happened: I have a lot of older friends. Like, Sabu and RVD, and Chris Jericho are my boys. I don’t know why, but I feel like they maybe see more in me than a lot of the younger promoters. They’re really supportive of me, and they constantly are putting me over, and I’m kind of [mind blown]. Woah! Legends!”

“I don’t know what happened there, but I think Chris Jericho found me through Sabu, and he said some nice things, and he’s like ‘Hey, I have a couple spaces open left on this cruise. Do you want to do it?’ And, I was like ‘uhh, yes. Duh?’ I’m doing it. There wasn’t really a lot of conversation going into it, honestly. It was just kind of like, I don’t know, people have been talking and found out about me and liked my shit, I guess!”

Tara Zep Announced for 2025 Jericho Cruise

by Spencer Love January 21, 2025
written by Spencer Love

VANCOUVER, BC: The Villain is set to hit the high seas.

Lions Gate Dojo trainee Tara Zep has officially been announced for the upcoming Jericho Cruise. The Cruise, now in its sixth year, takes place from January 31st to February 4th.

Zep revealed the news to Love Wrestling earlier this week as part of an exclusive interview.

“I got a little invite last minute to wrestle on the Chris Jericho AEW Cruise,” the Villain stated. “I don’t honestly know how that happened: I have a lot of older friends. Like, Sabu and RVD, and Chris Jericho are my boys. I don’t know why, but I feel like they maybe see more in me than a lot of the younger promoters. They’re really supportive of me, and they constantly are putting me over, and I’m kind of [mind blown]. Woah! Legends!”

“There wasn’t really a lot of conversation going into it, honestly,” Zep concluded. “It was just kind of like, I don’t know, people have been talking and found out about me and liked my shit, I guess!”

Elsewhere, Zep discussed her relationship with Mick Foley, and how the hardcore legend came to be a part of Zep’s first-ever deathmatch.
