LPW 19: SPEEDBALL STRIKES FIRST RESULTS | SEPTEMBER 29, 2023

by Ryan Gagne September 30, 2023
written by Ryan Gagne

On one of LPW’s greatest nights, the crowd filled the South Edmonton Common Rec Room to the rafters in one of the most anticipated cards in the promotion’s history. Besides “Speedball” Mike Bailey headlining the show against “God’s Gift to Wrestling” Michael Richard Blais, LPW 19 featured eight matches with some swerves thrown in, causing a ripple effect up and down the roster.

Whether you watched the action in person or followed the show online, here’s a recap of how everything unfolded in what would be one of the rowdiest nights of all time.

Travis Williams Wins LPW Challenge Championship From Son of Irish

LPW 19 opened with a championship bout, where Travis Williams squared off against Son of Irish for the Challenge Championship. At first, the match was slow-paced, with the two testing each other with various holds, allowing Williams to work on Son of Irish’s shoulder. Eventually, the two combined for the first “holy shit” moment of the night when Son of Irish dove over the top rope, landing on Williams a few rows into the crowd.

History was made in more ways than one last night.

In ending @Sonofirish12's reign, @proTWilliams is your new LPW Challenge Champion!

After the two exchanged pin attempts, Williams kept holding Son of Irish down, focusing on his shoulder, trying to weaken his opponent. Then, the action picked up again with several near falls before Williams pulled a reversal on a roll-up, flipping Son of Irish on his back, clutching his tights for the pinfall, and capturing the Challenge Championship.

Se7en and The RADz Battle to No Contest, Set up Special Stipulation Match at LPW 20

As always with big events, the Se7en came out in full force, with TJ Cannon and Marz the Specialist, taking on the Lumberjack Larry Woods and Rich King from the RADz. Even though the contest didn’t have a finish, the action in and out of the ring and the aftermath led to one of the more entertaining bouts of the night.

After the opening bell, Marz took most of the beating, including several spots of double teamwork from the RADz. Eventually, the tide turned in favor of the Se7en, but Cannon spent as much time engaging with the rowdy crowd instead of remaining focused on keeping the momentum on his side. Soon, all four competitors were in the ring, and chaos ensued. After a low blow by Marz, the two faction managers got involved in the action, forcing referee Stewart Garvey to call for the bell.

Considering how quickly the situation got out of hand, LPW’s fearless leader, Spencer Love, had to come out and calm things down, laying down a challenge for LPW 20 in November. Ultimately, RADz manager Judge Ben Oomen will choose a team member, while Thaddeus Archer the Third will do the same, and the two factions will battle again. However, the loser of the match will never be able to manage in LPW again.

Jared Rogers Scores Surprise Win Over El Asesino

In one of the shortest matches of the night, Jared Rogers scored a surprise win over El Asesino, who made the trip to Edmonton from Mexico. However, Rogers didn’t stand a chance since Asesino attacked him before the opening bell, pouncing on the local kid with no remorse.

As Asesino tossed his opponent around, his cockiness got the best of him when Rogers secured a surprise roll-up pin for the victory, sending the masked man into a rage. Eventually, security had to come out to the ring to break up the beatdown, but at that point, it didn’t matter because the record book would always read Rogers with the win.

Ty Jackson Secures RADz Championship Bid Beating Reid Matthews

In one of the most anticipated matches of the evening, Ty Jackson took care of business, earning a pinfall victory over “The Thickness” Reid Matthews, securing a championship shot for The RADz. Immediately after the bell rang, Jackson hoped on the attack, throwing a series of punches at an unsuspecting Matthews. Shortly after, he rolled outside, but Jackson kept the offense coming with a back flip over the ropes, sending Matthews to the concrete floor amongst the fans.

Surprisingly, once the two returned to the ring, Matthews had all the momentum, with Jackson eventually thrown to the floor outside. Although they reengage in the crowd, Jackson managed to land a kick from the top rope, resulting in both competitors staying down for a six count.

As expected, LPW Grand Champion Zoë Sager came out, and her first order of business was to untie the top turnbuckle to assist Matthews in getting the win. However, with the referee Garvey’s back turn, she tossed the title to Matthews, but Jackson intercepted it, and the whole incident sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Instead of using the belt as a weapon, he threw the title at Matthews and dropped to the mat, holding his face, just in time for Garvey to catch the tail end of the situation. Instead of calling for a disqualification, the match continued with Jackson attempting a roll-up pin that failed, then climbed to the top rope one final time to execute the Swanton Bomb, earning his stable a title shot despite the foiled interference attempts by Sager.

Jack Pride Retains Scramble Championship in Chaotic Fashion

Despite the lineup for the Scramble Championship changing before the start of the bout, “The Man of Two Minds” Jack Pride managed to walk away with his title thanks to a wild finish that ranks amongst the best moments of the night. In the beginning, Pride stood face to face with Dean Richtor, and the two tried to showcase their strength by beating up on Wolfboy Will Mantla and Riley Cruz. Eventually, Richor got tossed out of the ring, leaving Pride alone for several moments to take a double-team beat down.

J: Sorry, not sorry, Daddy Dean. We said We we’re keeping Our title…

P: We would never lie… #TrustUs

— Jack Pride (@JackPr7de) September 30, 2023

After regaining his position as the alpha wrestler in the match, Richtor took everyone out, executing a head butt from the top rope. Although he wasn’t done just yet, tossing Mantla for three suplexes before throwing caution to the wind with a dive on Pride on the outside. Then, seemingly moments away from winning the bout, Richor set himself up for another diving head butt from the other side of the ring, only to catch the double knees of Pride, who slide back into the ring. Despite missing the head butt from Richor, Cruz took the pin from Pride, who stole the moment to retain his title yet again.

Para Lira Remain Tag Team Champions in Stunning Fashion

Although the tag team championship bout didn’t have a clean finish, there was plenty of action between the team of Taryn From Accounting and Steven Crowe (Ride or Die) battling Berat Gorani and Sheik Shabaz (Para Lira). Before the opening bell, Crowe got attacked by Gorani in the crowd, feet away from the commentary table, allowing Shabaz to take out an unsuspecting Taryn inside the ring.

Eventually, referee Garvey got everyone back to ringside, where Para Lira doubled team their opponents for long stretches of the match. Once Crowe returned to his corner, he tagged in the match, getting momentum for Ride or Die. Although Taryn returned to the action, Berat and Shabaz, sporting a golden bowtie for the match, continued dominating the contest.

However, just when Crowe was about to put the match away with a few slaps and kicks when he got Berat down for the pin, Shabaz kicked Garvey, forcing the referee to call for the disqualification, handing the win to Ride or Die. Ultimately, because titles don’t change hands on a disqualification, Para Lira continues to reign as tag team champions despite their attempts to avoid defeat in this match.

Zoë Sager Keeps Finding Unusual Ways to Keep Her Grand Championship

Anyone attending an LPW show usually brings signs that read something about Sager being a cheater. Although she can win a match cleanly, lately, she keeps retaining her Grand Championship with the assistance of a person or object. Unfortunately, it was no different on Friday night at LPW 19.

In one of the night’s best matches, in front of an anti-Zoë crowd, the champion lived to fight another day after spending the first few minutes held down in various holds by challenger Judas Icarus. Besides looking vulnerable at times, Sager took control of the match after Matthews interfered with a hold along the ropes. However, things slowed down again with Icarus keeping Sager tied up in holds and on the mat, far away from her bodyguard lurking outside.

The Intangible Era has reached day 246, making @SagerZoe the longest-reigning Grand Champion in Love Pro Wrestling history. Congratulations, Zoë! pic.twitter.com/ATOkCBhQkM

— Love Wrestling || Love Pro Wrestling (@LoveWrestlingCA) September 30, 2023

Hilariously, after another attempt to get involved, Matthews got thrown out, leaving Sager alone to defend her championship. Immediately, Icarus capitalized on his opportunity and tossed the champion around the ring, connecting on a series of chops in each corner before laying her out with a spear. Ultimately, the crowd erupted into “this is awesome” chants as Sager grabbed her title belt and attempted to cheat, even failing to land a low blow.

Instead of taking a hit, Sager grabbed referee Mike “The Fitz” Fitzpatrick in her place, forcing Icarus to back off from the collision. While Fitzpatrick turned away, thanking the wrestling gods for not taking the bump, Sager hit Icarus with the belt, collecting the one-two-three seconds later.

The RADz Shock the Wrestling World

Immediately after the bell, the RADz came through the curtains to celebrate Jackson’s win and to discuss the upcoming title match with Sager. However, when Judge Ben Ooman read the contract for the match, it wasn’t Jackson’s name on the dotted line, but Lumberjack Larry Woods.

Although there was a lot of confusion and frustration, Woods gave a passionate promo about all his errors over the months and how this title opportunity is a way to make up for the past. Even though Jackson lost his chance for gold, he supported Woods’ attempt to fix the situation and gave him his full support.

Michael Richard Blais and “Speedball” Mike Bailey Tear Down the House in the Main Event

One of the most anticipated and talked about matches in LPW history occurred in the main event, with Impact’s “Speedball” Mike Bailey taking on Michael Richard Blais. Ultimately, anyone who watched this match online would never really appreciate how fast-paced the contest was; something only felt being feet away from the ring.

In front of a sold-out crowd, Blais and Bailey tore down the house with countless breathtaking moves. Whether it was the two combatants trading blows, chops, or kicks, ultimately, you’d miss something if you blinked or looked at your phone. Whether the match was inside the ropes or amongst the fans in the rows or stairs, there was one “holy shit” chant and three “this is awesome” chants.

One of the most brutal spots of the match took place with MRB tossing Bailey into the ring apron in what looked like the most painful move of the night. Surprisingly, Bailey was on the verge of being counted out when MRB interrupted the count at nine and begged for the match to continue. Eventually, the pair engaged in a series of chops, including some in the back, which ended when Bailey kicked MRB from behind.

HOLY CRAP SPEEDBALL!! pic.twitter.com/wBaLTorFH8

— Grainmaker Wrestling Podcast (@GrainmakerPod) September 30, 2023

Once again, they engaged in a series of kicks before a double suplex put men on the mat for another lengthy count. Then, in the highlight of the night, Bailey dove off the top rope, sending the crowd into another “this is awesome” chant before MRB took a double knee on the apron. Surprisingly, after both competitors pushed each other to their limits, with MRB going coast to coast once, then surviving a 360 splash, he got Bailey to tap with the Dungeon Lock.

Upcoming LPW Events

After a historic night in front of professional wrestling’s best fans, LPW announced their next show, on October 27, LPW 20 Planet Slammet, Janet. As mentioned, there’s only one confirmed match for the event, with Sager defending her Grand Championship against Woods in one of the night’s biggest contests.

As always, you can find all the latest news about LPW events by following them on social media at @LoveWrestlingCA and attending shows by buying your tickets in the links below. Also, season tickets will be on sale soon, so if you are not witnessing history in person, you are missing out.

LPW x CWS #7 Results | September 28, 2023

by Ryan Gagne September 29, 2023
written by Ryan Gagne

On Thursday night, in front of a rowdy crowd at the Rec Room in South Edmonton Common, the LPW and Clandestine Society stars collided in another entertaining night of professional wrestling. Whether fans were cheering the faces of the heels, there were a handful of exciting matches and a lot of build-up for Friday night’s super card, LPW #19 Speedball Strikes First.

So, if anyone missed the events that transpired at LPW x CWS #7, here’s a recap of the action from Thursday night.

TY Jackson lassos “The Rhinestone Cowboy” Steven Crowe in the night’s opening match

On Thursday night, TY Jackson secured a three-count win over The Rhinestone Cowboy Steven Crowe, about 24 hours before his big showdown with “The Thickness” Reid Matthews. Ultimately, in a tune-up match before his opportunity to challenge for the LPW Grand Championship with a victory over Matthews, Jackson overcame a vibrant effort from Crowe, who nearly got the pin on several occasions.

At first, the two opponents felt each out with some holds, taking things slow before exchanging offensive attacks, with Jackson executing a dive through the ropes, landing with Crowe several rows into the crowd. Surprisingly, upon returning to the ring, Crowe controlled the pace, connecting on a knee from the top rope and gaining two near falls, unable to keep Jackson’s shoulder pinned for a three count. After The Good, The Bad and The Ugly failed, Jackson countered and secured the win with a backflip from the top rope.

Zoë Sager and Reid Matthews Talk Smack

Immediately following Jackson’s exit from the ring, LPW Grand Champion Zoë Sager and her bodyguard Matthews gave the audience an impromptu promo. During her time with the mic, with several in the crowd booing, she outlined her plan to remain the champion and never lose her title, especially to someone like Judas Icarus, her opponent on Friday night.

Hilariously, The Se7en’s Jack Pride and Marz the Specialist cut Sager’s time short, coming out to discuss their plans to show the crowd who is the better LPW champion after the night’s main event. Considering that Pride currently holds the Scramble Championship, he said he’s always on guard because his opponents can be anyone, unlike Sager, who gets match announcements months in advance. Besides the back-and-forth bickering amongst the superstars, the segment ended without Marz acknowledging that he had to fight Matthews later in the evening.

Taryn From Accounting Dominates Jared Rodgers in Front of His Family

As wrestling fans know, there’s nothing more certain than death, taxes, and Taryn From Accounting embarrassing an opponent in front of friends and family. Unfortunately, on Thursday night, Jared Rodgers could not mount much offense against Taryn, who survived the match’s first pinfall attempt and squashed every other attack that came her way.

After several grappling holds to begin the contest, Taryn took control of the match from the early going, and anytime the crowd felt Rodgers building momentum, she put him back on the mat. Eventually, with a divided crowd of fans cheering on both wrestlers, Taryn taunted Rodger’s family at ringside. Surprisingly, the two combatants stayed down for a seven count, but that was only a minor setback as Taryn hit her Number Cruncher to collect the pin and the win.

Wolfboy Will Mantla loses a David vs. Goliath-style match to Berat Gorani

As one-half of the current LPW tag team champions, Berat Gorani (Para Lira) waltzed into his contest with Wolfboy Will Mantla, using his towering size to his advantage in what turned out to be a complete mismatch between the ropes. Although Mantla did manage to get in some offense, making Gorani stumble at times, his best efforts only earned him the night’s nearest fall at two and a half.

Of course, Gorani played up his status as one of the promotion’s biggest heels by posing while stepping on Mantla’s chest for a pinfall attempt early in the match. Besides scoring a fantastic neck breaker from the top rope, his first attempt at a pump-up powerbomb failed with a counter before nailing it on the second try, getting the three count.

Unsurprisingly, Gorani then took the mic and told the crowd that Para Lira would not be losing their tag titles to anyone from the Clandestine Society and was going to give everyone a taste of what was to come with another attack on Mantla after the bell. Luckily, Taryn and Crowe came rushing out to the ring, scaring Gorani into the crowd and planting a seed of doubt a night before the two teams hook up for the tag titles.

Sager and Mathews Cheat Their Way to Another Victory

Despite the main event on Thursday night not being a championship bout, the LPW Grand and Scramble titles factored heavily into the match’s outcome. After the opening bell, Marz took the brunt of the beating from Sager and Matthews, who managed to sneak in some shady moves while referee Judge Ben Ooman wasn’t looking. Whether using the ropes to their advantage or pulling his hair, Marz could not make a tag from the other side of the ring, spending what seemed like an eternity away from his partner, Pride.

After several tags from both teams, the match erupted into a four-way, with everyone participating, executing moves with their partners, and trying to get the pin by any means necessary. Eventually, Sager kicked out of the closest pin attempt in the match, which led to Matthews escaping ringside with Pride’s Scramble Championship belt. While chaos ensued outside, Sager used her Grand Championship title as a weapon, hitting Marz in the head and discarding the belt in time for the referee to return to the ring and count the fall. Ultimately, this match could have had a different outcome if Se7en’s manager Thaddeus Archer the Third had been at ringside to cut down on the champion cheating her way into another unearned victory.

Upcoming LPW Events

LPW is set to host their biggest event of the year on Friday night, with Impact’s Speedball Mike Bailey set to take on God’s Gift to Wrestling Michael Richard Blais. Although there are seven other matches on the card, this will be the main event, with two of professional wrestling’s best going head-to-head in front of a sold-out auditorium.

LPW 19: Speedball Strikes First Preview

by Pluggo September 26, 2023
written by Pluggo

Here we are, baby! It’s officially LPW week and it’s a big one – dare I say the biggest one in LPW history? LPW 19:Speedball Strikes First is here. Now, I know what you are saying. You’re saying, “Pluggo, you quite often say this month is the biggest show in history.” Well, we just continue to get better and better, so no matter how many times you’ve heard it before, it’s true again here!

This month LPW has some big debuts. Every title is on the line. Dream matches and just all-around intrigue surround this show. Can MRB beat Speedball? Does Zoe make it out as Grand Champion? Will TY Jackson come one step closer to finishing his story? What will shake out of the tag division? And so much more!

So let me not waste any more time asking you all these questions, because I answered them – or, at least, I gave you my thoughts on them. So strap in, friends, because there is a lot to unpack ahead of LPW 19: Speedball Strikes First.

Son of Irish vs. Travis Williams

LPW Challenge Championship

Son Of Irish has without a doubt been cooking with gas since winning the LPW Challenge Championship. Irish picked up a big win over Gigi Rey last month to retain his championship, after Rey came up short at LPW 17 against Zoë Sager.

In comes Travis Williams in a similar fashion. After he came within a hair of beating Zoe Sager at LPW 18, he finds himself in the Challenge Championship match, and rightfully so, as the professional is one of the best wrestlers on the planet. One has to wonder if his partner in crime, Judas Icarus, being on this card (which we will talk about later) will add to Williams’ motivations.

At this point, we have gone from, “Oh shoot, the deck’s really stacked against SOI this month, he might drop the belt,” to “He’s without a doubt a top star in LPW and until I see it happen I can’t go against SOI.” Dare I say he’s a strong contender for LPW Wrestler of the Year? All I know, friends, is that if history is any indicator, this match will not only be kicking off this show but setting the effing bar for everyone who follows them.

Jack Pride vs. Shaun Moore vs. Eli Surge vs. Wolfboy Will Mantla vs. Dean Richtor

Scramble Championship

The Man of Two Minds has another huge test coming their way at LPW 19. That said, confidence has to be running incredibly high for the leader of Se7en. Last month they not only beat the Clandestine Society and the RADz, who are bitter rivals, but Pride took out their own stablemates in TJ Cannon and Marz the Specialist.

So how do you stop someone who has no problem, and in a lot of ways prefers, doing whatever they have to to win and will never apologize for that?

Well, you throw none other than Shaun Moore into the mix. Moore has been on a war path in LPW as of late, beating the one and only, everyone’s favorite conspiracy theorist Eli Surge, and a couple of fantastic LPW debutantes in Wolfboy and Dean Richtor.

Admittedly, that might work out to their advantage because it’s one thing to study tape on the Man of Two Minds; it’s something entirely different when you’re standing across the ring from Jack Pride, or so I’ve been told. Jack Pride is on another level right now and I think their title reign, for as long as it’s been, is just getting started. Just know that even if Pride comes out on top, his Scramble matches have simply become must-see TV every last Friday of the month.

The RADz vs. TJ Cannon & Marz The Specialist

These bitter rivals, as mentioned above, can’t seem to stay out of each other’s way and it’s come to the point that if one group can’t have the LPW Tag Team Championships then the other damn sure won’t as well. So now the bad blood has come to a head and it’s time to settle this. You’d have to imagine the winner here separates themselves in what is easily one of the best Tag Team divisions in independent wrestling. While it’s not been made official, I’d think the winner here gets the shot at the winner of Para Lira and Ride or Die.

Can these teams stay focused and not allow outside issues or turmoil inside their faction stop them from the ultimate goal of tag team domination? This match will be a war of attrition, and the one who’s mentally prepared for the mind games and what feels like a knock-down, drag-out fight will come away the winner.

The RADz themselves admit things haven’t been smooth since the mandatory face turn and we know the issues Se7en has had in the past. So it comes down to who’s going to overcome, and I just have to go with my gut here and say the RADz squeeze out a big win here. The only question left to answer is if Ben Oomen and Thaddeus Archer can keep their hands off each long enough to celebrate with their respective teams if they win.

Jared Rodgers vs. El Asesino

One of the fastest-rising stars in LPW, Jared looks to continue his climb up the ranks. What better way to test yourself so early in your career than against the veteran, El Asesino, who has probably forgotten more about professional wrestling than Jared knows? That just means Jared will have to prepare himself for anything and everything Asesino will throw his way.

Look for Rodgers to continue to turn some heads and get another big win under his belt.

Para Lira vs. Ride Or Die

LPW Tag Team Championship

Para Lira has been the big winner of Faction Warfare here in LPW, as the Clandestine Society has also gotten themselves all tied up with Se7en and the RADz. Let’s not sell Sheik & Berat short, though. Sure, they got the tag team championships due to the RADz’ beef with Se7en, but now, with well over 100 days as champion, they have proven to be an absolute force in a stacked tag-team division. Not to mention they have a willingness to grab any opportunity for advantage they can.

In steps TFA and Steven Crowe, as the Clandestine won a three-way dance to get this shot. Sure it was MRB and Crowe earning the shot, but CS will be free-birding this opportunity, as MRB has some business to attend to later that night. In no way, though, is TFA a downgrade, as she and Crowe are best friends and legitimately ride-or-dies! RoD has been in some of the biggest matches LPW had held, and TFA was your longest reigning Challenge Champion at one point, so I fully expect them to be up to the challenge of what Para Lira brings inside (and sometimes outside) of the ring. Let’s just hope whoever referees this contest has their head on a swivel.

As much as I enjoy Para Lira, you already know I’m Riding with my girl TFA aka the 3rd Beard of Between Two Beards (every Thursday night; sorry not sorry for the shameless plug). So get ready for Spencer Love to be saying AND NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS STEVEN CROWE, TARYN FROM ACCOUNTING RIDE OR DIE!!!!

Reid Matthews vs. TY Jackson

If Jackson Wins the RADz get a Grand Championship Shot.

TY Jackson is also known in some circles as the rightful Grand Champion, as he came up short via a referee’s reversal at LPW 16 against Zoe Sager. TY and Ben Oomen have been campaigning for each other’s shot at the title, even going as far as to constantly interrupt Spencer pleading their case, which up till now hasn’t been successful. Even this matchup isn’t truly what the RADz want, but TY knows it’s better than nothing, and he has to just show up and show out if he hopes to get back at Zoe Sager for claiming what he believes is his LPW Grand Championship.

Standing in his way is Zoe’s muscle and insurance policy, the hard-hitting badass known to all as The Thickness, Reid Matthews. For Reid, he knows where his bread is buttered and he simply has one job: Keep TY and the RADz away from the Grand Champion. As much as Zoe hasn’t backed down from anyone, she doesn’t want to see a highly Motivated TY Jackson and an entire Rec Room gunning for her championship.

You have to imagine Zoe has more than a vested interest in this matchup as there is a lot at stake, let’s just hope she can keep her focus.

So it’s simple for Matthews, or is it? What’s to say Reid wins and starts to think “Wait a minute, I won, where’s my title shot?” I’m just saying, once Reid realizes just how valuable he truly is to Zoe’s retention, we may see some cracks start to form in this partnership.

I have a feeling this night will belong to TY Jackson and the RADz as TY comes one step closer to finishing the story.

Zoe Sager vs Judas Icarus

LPW Grand Championship

Where will Zoe’s head be heading into the match? Did TY win and now she’s looking past Judas? Did Reid win and now she’s questioning his loyalties? Maybe Reid was so beat up after what I expect to be a war that he can’t be at ringside? Or, it’s entirely possible the status quo happens and Reid is right where he needs to be? No matter what, Zoe Sager needs to be ready for Judas, as he’s not only debuting here in LPW, but he’s hungry to make a splash his first night here. As he and I talked about for the LPW over on our Patreon, you have to wonder if watching his brother in Sovereign, Travis Williams, come up short last month will be a factor in his game plan. You know he picked his brain.

Zoë has proven time and time again that she comes out on top no matter what the cost, and she shouldn’t be slept on as Grand Champion. Judas has a style, and his uniqueness can present a real problem for Sager even with a fully healthy Matthews at ringside. As I talked with Judas about, he doesn’t care if it’s 2 on 1 or 100 on 1, he plans to leave LPW 19 as the new Grand Champion.

If only it was that easy. Come hell or high water, I think the numbers game will be just too much for Icarus to overcome and Sager’s historic reign will continue to LPW 20.

Speedball Mike Bailey vs. Michael Richard Blais

Yes, you read that correctly: SPEEDBALL VS GOD’S GIFT TO PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING. I couldn’t be more excited to see two of not only Canada’s best but two of the best wrestlers in the world go one-on-one!

Speedball comes into this matchup firing on all cylinders as one of the top wrestlers across the indies and one of the stars of Impact Wrestling. He’s been very complimentary of his opponent MRB, who in his words is “a champion carrying the weight of the scene on his back” as he said to our own Zak Ralph over on YouTube.

For MRB, this match has to mean so much to him. While he’s not the household name Speedball is, MRB has been on an impressive run himself, making stops at GCW, DEFY, and just a little 8-hour Gauntlet Match to celebrate 20 years in the business. And while Speedball mentioned having a whole scene on MRB’s back, you know MRB feels that added pressure without it being spoken into existence. You can’t talk about Western Canadian professional wrestling without mentioning MRB. He is, in a lot of ways, the face of LPW as he has been the standard here since day 1. So the pressure is on MRB to come out on top, for not only him but Western Canada and LPW. A win over Speedball turns quite a few heads, especially for those who may not know MRB and just how special he is.

So while Speedball may be the favorite in this absolute dream matchup in LPW, he’d better indeed strike first and strike often because, for MRB, this is a scene-defining and career-changing opportunity. If Speedball slips up ever so slightly MRB will be ready to have his hand raised in victory!

Asking me to pick this matchup is like asking Mrs. Pluggo to pick between her favorite Christmas trees. Well, I’m a professional, so I’ll do my best here. I’m going with MRB putting the team on his back, so to speak, and stunning Speedball Mike Bailey!

And if that wasn’t enough to get you excited for LPW 19. All this sure-to-be fantastic wrestling will be called by none other than Big Bad Boris and Veda Scott. I know right? Talk about a dream commentary team!!!

Either way, friends, we the fans win because that main event has nothing but bangers written all over it. Not to mention, this entire card from top to bottom is loaded with great talent, passion, and a desire to steal the show at Speedball Strikes First. If this written preview wasn’t enough to get you ready for Friday night, you can head over to Love Wrestling on YouTube and check out the LPW 19 Preview show I did with Big Bad Boris and Blair Pacheco! As always, friends, you can catch me every Thursday night at 8 p.m. on Between Two Beards with JPJ and Saturday Mornings with Blair Pacheco on For Exposure.

See you all next month for LPW 20!
