Pluggo’s Top 5 of the Week!

by Pluggo

We are on the road to some very exciting stuff as Night Of Champions, All In and Evolution all around the corner. Those cards are beginning to shape up and storylines are heating up. We had Goldberg return this past week to challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at July 12th’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. Don’t worry, that moment did not make my Top 5 but here are some things that did. Enjoy!

Pipebomb: Cena’s Version

When John Cena vs CM Punk was announced for Night of Champions, the assumption was we’d get another CM Punk Pipebomb. As it turned out, not quite. It was Cena instead who dropped my favorite promo he’s ever dropped. Sure, CM Punk laid the groundwork for Cena’s version. That said, John Cena put his spin on it and crushed it, mentioning Nic Nemeth, Matt Cardona and even AEW’s Claudio Castagnoli. One thing I will say, and I say this in jest of course: At least John Cena dropped his Pipebomb in the ring and not from the stage!

Kris Statlander Bumps into Jon Moxley!

On Saturday night’s AEW Collision, during a backstage interview, Kris Statlander had a moment with the Death Riders. Statlander was upset with her position in the company, wondering why she’s not in more matches and why Willow is getting opportunities and she isn’t. Wheeler Yuta showed up and said, “I told you so.” Statlander said she wanted no part of this and knows who he is. Then, frustrated, Statlander turned around and bumped into AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.  Moxley showed unusual restraint and simply said, “Don’t let anyone tell you who you are or what you are worth.”

I’m all in on the potential Kris Statlander would have joining up with the Death Riders. She definitely could use the boost in terms of things to do, and the Death Riders would benefit from having another badass woman alongside Marina Shafir, making the group even tougher to take down.

Asuka is Back!

Asuka is back and better than ever. The Empress of Tomorrow has punched her ticket to the Queen of The Ring Finals. Asuka won her Fatal 4-Way Monday night in her return. Then Asuka defeated Alexa Bliss to advance to the finals. It’s so good to have Asuka back, and what a great time for her return. We are at a very fun moment in the women’s division, where we have a mix of up and coming stars who are hungry to prove themselves. Couple that with the veterans on the roster who aren’t looking to give up their spots anytime soon, and Asuka adding to the veteran side of the equation, we could be in for a lot of super fun storylines.

Who’s next for Jacy Jayne?

NXT held four Eliminator matches on Tuesday night to determine who will take on NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne. The winners of those four matches were Jaida Parker, Izzi Dame, Lash Legend & Jordynne Grace. They will face off this week to determine the challenger for Jayne, which should be plenty of headache for her and Fatal Influence. And yet they decided to crash the Blake Monroe NXT Contract signing and put the newest “Flavor of the Month” – her words, not mine – through a table, adding to the list of enemies for the new NXT Women’s Champion. So will Blake Monroe let Tuesday play out and wait her turn in line, or will she find a way to get herself a match with Jacy sooner than later?

Becky Lynch and Bayley are Cooking!

Bayley made her triumphant return two weeks ago after being laid out since WrestleMania at the hands of Becky Lynch. This is a feud I’ve been excited for since Becky came back and started a program with Lyra Valkyria for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. You factor Valkyria into this mix, as she didn’t seem too pleased with Bayley getting a shot at Becky Lynch this week on RAW. I’d be surprised if that match ends clean. We have two all time greats fighting for the new Women’s championship and they are making a brand new star in the process. This has the makings for an explosive summer in the Women’s IC title picture.

There we go! Another week, another Top 5 in the books. Let me know what stuck out to you from the week that was in the comments. As always, keep it locked here for future Top 5s and more from your favorite Love Wrestling personalities.
